The One Where I Get Political

I've decided that I have some things to say. I am an Obama supporter. It's come to my attention that some women think that I am somehow betraying my gender, that I should be voting for Hillary because she's a woman, etc etc etc.

Please note: I know not all women Hillary supporters are voting for her just because she is a woman. Scylla for instance is an extremely informed voter, knows her issues, knows where she stands, and though I may not agree with her on some points I have the utmost respect for her views and her reasons for being a Clinton supporter.

I am all for having a woman in the white house, I really am. The thing is, I am not going to vote based on anything except the issues and what I believe in. I am not supporting Obama because of his gender, his race, his eye color, or the type of shoes he wears. I am supporting him for many, many reasons but none of them are listed above.

I agree with his views on healthcare, I respect the fact he was against the war in Iraq from day one, I agree with his views on almost everything. I think we do need change. I do not think he is all talk and no action, I have read about actions he has already taken in his life for the issues he cares about. Issues that I, too, care about. He inspires hope in me, which is something no other candidate has done since I was old enough to begin caring about this sort of thing.

Do I respect Hillary Clinton? You bet I do! She is a strong, passionate woman, intelligent and motivated, and has done some wonderful things. I just agree with Obama more. Will I be devastated if she gets in the wite house? No way! I think all democrats and liberals on both sides of the fence can agree on one thing: Bush is finally going to be gone and we need another republican like we need holes in all of our heads. And I will add this: Nader better not screw things up again!

Now that I am done rambling on and on, I just want to say that I know not everyone who comes here is going to agree with me on some or all of my points, and you know what? That's great! That's what makes this country so great. We can all have our own minds, our own opinions, and voice them freely. I am not of the "I am right and you are wrong!" mindset, I am of the "everyone is entitled to their own opinions and theoretically majority rules so voice your opinions and get out there and vote!" mindset.

You may agree or disagree all you want in the comments, I welcome that... all I ask is that you keep it respectful!

I am also an Obama supporter...I do love Hilary and think she would do a GREAT job, but given the choice...I choose to go with the tide that seems to be turning heads everywhere he goes...I am so hopeful that he can get the worlds attention and let them know there are some of us who want change...I am really really hopeful...

I am a republican turned moderate almost a liberal.I respect what you have to say about Obama but frankly some of his policies scare me! Hillary is a little safer and it has nothing to do with her gender at all.In fact, she was the last candidate I planned on voting for.I would of supported Obama but the repercussions of some of his ideas really put the fear of god in me.

I love political bloggers. I wanted Dennis Kucinich, so you can probably guess which way I lean.

Thanks for the compliment! I appreciate it a lot.

You know which way I want to vote, and I agree with you that either candidate will be good in office.

I am concerned that Obama's extremely liberal leanings will add risk to the election. There may be a lot of moderate repubs out there that won't want to lean that far left in a president, and McCain is looking very moderate, for a frontrunner in today's republican party.

This is good stuff. I find myself with Obama right now.

I've been visiting a site called glassbooth dot org that is an excellent resource in finding out about candidates' history and experience. Your readers might like to give it a go.

(I'm not a sponsor or in any way affiliated; I just think it's a good tool.)

I love that we are at a point in our country where a woman and an African American are running for President! I think that is amazing. That being said, I am voting for McCain. My views just don't gel with Clinton or Obama. But no matter who wins the presidency I will support them and give them the respect that the position deserves. I would not want that job for all the money in the world.
I sincerely hope people are not voting for someone simply because of gender, race, eye color or any other insignificant detail.
Great post!

Despite the fact that she annoys the heck out of me, I'm Clinton all the way. After going through pages and pages of where each candidate stands, she was the one that I found myself agreeing with most often. And when I didn't agree, I felt that there was adequate and respectable reasoning behind her stance. I'm like you, I don't care if everybody agrees with me, I just hope they know why they feel the way they do (and it better not be because "he's ugly" or "she's a b*tch" or "I don't trust him"). It's all about the issues.

I totally agree about Nader. Which is sad, b/c I think he's such a good guy IN GENERAL (also sad b/c I wish the smaller parties had more chance of winning), but I think he's a dolt for running. Again. My husband and I disagree on this often. LOL

Well, I'm voting for Obama because he does wear really nice shoes.

Kidding.

I'm glad to hear that you're volunteering. I sat on the fence for so long (my first choice was Dodd), that I sorta missed the chance to work on the Obama campaign here in CA, though I did do some stuff.

Here here! I too am a Obama Mama. When I hear him speak. It really gives me hope that our country can pull out of it's nosedive. One of the many reasons I personally choose Obama is that he's the only candidate to me that seems to have a strong desire to heal the nation. And after 8 years of getting kicked I welcome that with open arms. Wonderful Post!
